The FAQ Section is a resource for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about and around the Joomla! Content Management System. A lot of community members have already provided FAQs in the past. These were once available in the FAQ forum, and have now been moved over here.
Q: What is a FAQ?
According to Wikipedia, a FAQ is an abbreviation for "Frequently Asked Question(s)". The term refers to listed questions and answers, all supposed to be frequently asked in some context, and pertaining to a particular topic
Q: What is the name of this project going to be?
The FAQs are going to be part of the help site at http://help.joomla.org . This means that there will be no seperate name for it. We will most likely refer to it as the FAQ section.
Q: What extension is being used to run the FAQ site?
We are using EasyFAQ by Joomla-addons . Adam, the developer, has been around Mambo/Joomla! for a long time and is well known to many people.
Q: How can I submit new FAQs for the FAQ Section?
In the future, we hope to add a submission form. For the time being, please continue to make all new submissions in the FAQ forum.
Q: Can authors edit their own FAQ submissions?
For now, only the FAQ team will be able to edit the FAQs in the FAQ Section.
Q: What will the categories be for the FAQs?
To start off, we are using the same categories as exist in the FAQ forum:
- Starting with Joomla!
- Installation
- Administration
- Upgrading and Migrating
- Security
- Performance
- Templates
- Joomla! project
We will add more (child) categories if needed
Q: What license applies to the FAQs?
All documentation on the help site falls under the Creative Commons License, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 license. All contributions to the FAQ section will use the same license.
Q: Will the current content of the FAQs change when they move to the Help Site?
No. Initially, we will be editing the FAQs for layout and style only.
Q: Are we also going to host tutorials on the FAQ Section?
No decision has been reached on this. The first phase of the project is to move all FAQs to the Help Site. When this is completed, we will re-evaluate the situation and make a decision.
Q: How can I search in FAQs?
The normal search function on the Help Site is also searching FAQs.
This also searches all the User documentation. Experience will tell if
the search function is valid, or if a separate facility one has to be
made.
Q: Who is in the FAQ Team?
The moderators of the FAQ forum make up the members of the FAQ team.
Q: What is the readership level?
The readership level is a way to show people how difficult the content is. There are three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Experienced.
Q: How can I modify a FAQ that I contributed?
It is not possible for authors of FAQ entries to edit their entries directly. We would have to give people permissions to the whole Help
Site, and this would not be appropriate. When you want to modify a FAQ,
please post a new thread in the FAQ forum or send a PM to one of the
moderators of the FAQ forum. They will gladly modify a FAQ made by you.
Q: Further Questions?
If you have any other questions, please visit the FAQ forum and open a new thread there.
