Description:The News Feed Manager provides the capability to create and manage News Feeds and assign them to the Categories defined in the Category Manager [ Component: News Feeds ]. News Feed Categories must be created first.Toolbar:
Publish: Check the check box next to the News Feed that is to be Published (displayed). Multiple News Feeds may be selected. Then click the Publish icon. Unpublish: Check the check box next to the News Feed that is to be Unpublished (not displayed). Multiple News Feed Categories may be selected. Then click the Unpublish icon. Unpublishing a Category does not delete it. Delete: To delete a News Feed, check the check box next to the name of the News Feed to be deleted and click the Delete icon. A pop up dialogue box will appear requesting a confirmation of the required delete operation. Click the OK button to delete the News Feed, and the News Feed file will be permanently deleted from the server (unlike the Trash function, Items that are deleted do not get placed in the Trash Manager). Select the Cancel button to abort the delete operation. Upon completing the deletion - or cancelling the action - the administrator will be returned to the News Feed Manager screen. It is possible to delete more than one News Feed at a time simply by checking more than one check box. Edit: Click the name of the News Feed to be edited, or select the check box next to the name and click the Edit icon. This opens the selected News Feed file in the News Feed: Edit screen. New: Click the New icon to create a new News Feed. The News Feed: New screen will be displayed. Help: Click the Help icon at any time to view this Help Screen. Columns:#: This is simply an indexing number automatically inserted by Joomla! for ease of reference. It has no particular bearing on the use of the News Feed Manager. Check Box: The column of check boxes are the means by which individual News Feeds are selected before clicking one of the appropriate icons in the Toolbar. Single Items can also be opened, for editing, by clicking upon the News Feed Name.
News Feed: The name that identifies the News Feed and is used as its heading in displayed pages. Clicking the News Feed name opens the News Feed Manager in edit/view mode. This allows the details of the News Feed to be changed if necessary using the information above. Published: The icons in this column identify the current publication status of a particular News Feed, as follows:
Reorder: Change the order that the News Feed will be displayed within its Category and will therefore be displayed within the News Feed Manager. Click the Category: This column shows the Category to which the News Feed has been assigned. Click on the Category Name to open the Category in the Category Manager [ Component: News Feed ]. # Articles: This column displays the number of News Item that are displayed for a particular News Feed link. Cache time: This column displays the amount of time (in seconds) that a News Feed is stored in the web site cache before a further request is made of the owning site for an update to get the latest entries. If a linked site only updates once a day, for example, then this figure can be amended in the News Feed: Edit screen to reflect this. Filter:By Category: It is possible to filter the list of News Feeds by the Category they are assigned to so they are easier to view in the News Feed Manager (of most use to web sites with a large number of News Feeds). Select the Category from the drop down list. To reset the list, choose the - Select Category - item from the list. Related Information:
